The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) is a volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism.

Western Shores Chapter, NSDAR, has a rich heritage of promoting DAR objectives and values serving Long Beach, Lakewood, and the surrounding communities, and honoring the Patriots of the American Revolutionary War.

Our chapter projects seek to help students and veterans, and our monthly programs focus on genealogy, historic preservation, education, patriotism, and personal growth.

Please join us at one of our monthly meetings!  We meet from September through June for socializing and listening to an informative, captivating speaker. Please contact us for the exact meeting day, time, and location.

Visit the links under the "About Us" tab for our calendar, news, projects, activities, list of our Patriot ancestors, and information about what YOU need to get started, as well as the history of our Western Shores Chapter.

What is Junior Membership?  Junior Members are a special designation for young ladies ages 18 through 35 who are members of NSDAR. They hold full membership and are encouraged to participate at every level. When qualified, Junior Members may serve as chairmen or officers at the chapter, state, and national levels of our society.  Leadership training is available and encouraged. Juniors often serve as Pages at state meetings and Continental Congress.  Pages are essential to DAR and their service is truly valued.

Junior members provide energy and fresh ideas and are the future of NSDAR. We welcome new junior members to join others in service and fellowship. Come join the fun!

Interested in joining Western Shores Chapter? We welcome any woman for membership who is 18 years of age or older, who is descended from a man or woman who aided in achieving American independence during the period between April 19, 1775, and November 26, 1783 (from the Battle of Lexington to the withdrawal of the British troops from New York).

We invite you to meet with our vibrant and friendly membership team at one of our monthly meetings. Gathering your documentation may sound like a daunting task, but our chapter Registrar will be happy to help you with your research and application process.  You do not need to have all of your genealogical research completed in order to begin your application.

We are ready to help you get started on your path to membership in the DAR.

Don't let your family history be lost.

We welcome prospective new members, and DAR members who are relocating to Long Beach, Lakewood, or the surrounding area.

The DAR is a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism, founded on October 11, 1890 and incorporated in 1896 by an Act of Congress.

Our Mission is to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism, and our Motto is God, Home and Country.

 2025-2028 The Storage Administration

President General: Ginnie Sebastian Storage

Our administration’s theme, "Illuminate Our Legacy," is a call to action. It is a beacon that guides us as we honor the past, celebrate the present, and shape the future of our Society and our nation.

We gather at a pivotal moment in American history. In just a short time, our nation will commemorate its 250th anniversary. This milestone is not merely a date to be marked, but a legacy to be illuminated—a legacy of courage, sacrifice, and vision. As Daughters of the American Revolution, we are the torchbearers of that legacy. We are the stewards of the values and ideals for which our Patriot ancestors fought and sacrificed. We are the living embodiment of the dreams of our Founders—both the men and women who achieved our nation’s independence, and the four visionary women who, in 1890, established this National Society.

Two scripture passages have been selected for this administration. The first, 1 Peter 4:10, "God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another" encourages us to do good as a reflection of our faith and character. And Proverbs 31:10, "Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies" highlights the exceptional value and character of a virtuous woman. Her worth transcends material possessions, indicating that true value is found in qualities like wisdom, kindness, and integrity. In my heart of hearts, I truly believe DAR is made up of good women who continuously shine their light.

Our mission—historic preservation, education, and patriotism—is as vital today as it was in 1890. As we look to the future, we must recommit ourselves to these ideals, ensuring that our work remains relevant, impactful, and inclusive. We hope to do that through the administration’s six goals.

Storage Administration Goals:

  • Commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America with intention and purpose by reflecting on the values of liberty, democracy, and the sacrifices made by those who came before us.
  • Value each member’s distinct qualities and perspectives. Recognize her shared experiences and unique background. Foster a kind and engaged membership community.
  • Increase membership by enhancing meaningful experiences for new and existing members as well as pursuing reinstatement of former members.  Discover more opportunities for establishing lines for eligible Patriots previously difficult to prove.
  • Support our chapters in enriching their communities through service projects and outreach that promote our mission areas of historic preservation, education, and patriotism.
  • Acknowledge the commitment, dedication, and value of our National Society headquarters team.
  • Ensure careful management of the assets of the National Society, maintain financial stability, and promote continued operational success.

As we approach the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, we do so with intention and purpose. As we plan to celebrate, I encourage chapters and states to look for ways to commemorate this important occasion. Through our commitment to historic preservation, education, patriotism, and service, we have left an indelible mark on our nation's history. As we celebrate our achievements, let us also recognize the importance of our ongoing work in preserving our past, educating our future, and illuminating a sense of patriotism that will carry our nation forward toward the 250th anniversary of its founding. The National Society has plans to celebrate in a grand fashion!
